Accessia Health opens financial assistance program For individuals with rare blood disorder myelodysplastic syndromes

Midlothian, Va. (October 21, 2024) – Accessia Health, a national nonprofit 501(c)(3) patient assistance organization, is now offering financial assistance to those living with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). Through the MDS Patient Program, eligible insured and uninsured individuals can use their funding for medication copays, health insurance premiums, travel costs, and other related medical expenses.

MDS are a rare group of cancers characterized by the inability of immature blood cells found in bone marrow to mature into healthy blood cells. In individuals with MDS, these immature blood cells do not progress into functional cells, leading to their accumulation in the bloodstream and resulting in a deficiency of healthy blood cells, which can cause various health complications.

Living with MDS can significantly impact a patient’s quality of life and overall health. Some of these health challenges include anemia, an increased risk of infection, and the potential to progress to acute conditions that require additional medical care. The ongoing monitoring and treatment necessary for MDS can be costly, highlighting the importance of financial assistance for affected individuals.

The cost of obtaining care is often the barrier people face in getting the treatment they need, and funding through Accessia Health will help to improve access to overall care for those who would otherwise go without. The organization’s patient assistance programs are designed to support those living with a rare or chronic health condition and alleviate the stress that may come with affording medical expenses.

Accessia Health’s financial assistance programs are available to eligible individuals who have a diagnosed rare disease or chronic health condition. Program space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Patient programs will only remain open as long as funding is available.
